The Thinking, Fast and Slow were suggested by a friend while we were discussing around psychology, making choices, decision making etc. So little I knew back then when I incautiously ordered the book among some other reads.The amount of knowledge, experience and wisdom delivered in this book is absolutely amazing. I truly understand why the book is "The International Bestseller". Reading the book were somewhat slow process. Process indeed. Not because of the text in itself, this is easy and nicely written book to read. The problem for me were the book is in fact so well written that it opened me to evaluate my own decision making process and reasoning, my own behaviour and why I make decisions I make. Or what are the reasons behind certain behavioural patterns. I just had to stop every now and then just to let the "mind trick" to happen.The book lays down the strong concept of "What You See Is All There Is", WYSIATI, behind our decisions. I won't go further than this so that the book can speak to you as it did to me. However this concept has been bubbling disturbingly loud in the back of my head since. This is clearly a part of my personal Why. I do want to know, learn more, to be able to make at least somewhat educated decisions and be able to understand at least lightly certain behavioural patterns. To see more and to be able to understand there is even more out there, even more perspectives. Once the process goes on the mind may find out there is something outside of my cozy, comfortable box and also think outside of the box.

Der Inhalt ist Grandios und die Ausführungen zu "Behaveriol Economics" absolut lesenswert und die Erkenntnisse bahnbrechend, keine Frage. Ich hatte mir das Audiobuch besorgt und muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich nach der Hälfte des Buches die Lust verloren habe (habe dennoch weitergehört). Die Ausführungen sind langatmig, repetitiv und sehr trocken. Das Zuhören macht keine Freude und ich habe mich oft in der Struktur verloren.Beinahe wäre ich auch dem "Halo-Effekt" erlegen, aber nur weil der Autor einen Nobelpreis erhalten hat beutet dies nicht, dass man nicht mehr Unterhaltung erwarten darf. Deshalb zwei Sterne Abzug. Ich habe mir nachträglich einige YouTube-Videos zum Thema angeschaut und dies hat mir nur bestätigt, dass man den wirklich spannenden Inhalte unterhaltsamer und kürzer darstellen kann.

Dieses Buch hat mich wirklich beeindruckt. Völlig zurecht weisen die beiden McKinsey Autoren darauf hin, dass die meisten Firmen bei ihrer Strategieentwicklung einen "inside View" anwenden und Verbesserungen ausprobieren, die sich bei einer Analyse der Unternehmenslandschaft als hanebüchen herausstellen. In diesem Buch wird also ein "outside View" vorgestellt, der auf einer Analyse von mehr als 2000 Unternehmen beruht. Dabei wurde sehr genau untersucht, welche Indikatoren ein Unternehmen aufweisen muss, um die Chance auf signifikante Steigerung der Wirtschaftlichkeit zu erhöhen. Kern der Untersuchung ist eine sog. "Power Curve" - die Verteilung des Economic Profits der über 2000 betrachteten Unternehmen. Die Untersuchungen in diesem Buch sind alle samt sehr schlüssig und alles in allem bin ich sehr froh, das Buch gelesen zu haben. Das Buch liefert zahlreiche Fakten, Zahlen und Statistiken, um den Dialog während der Strategieentwicklung zu intensivieren und zu verbessern.Warum gibt es einen Stern Abzug? Zu Beginn des Buches wird die soziale Seite der Strategieentwicklung erörtert. Fraglos ein wichtiger Aspekt des Strategieprozesses, vielleicht sogar der wichtigste. Allerdings fand ich viele der Beobachtungen in diesem Kapitel relativ banal und wenig informativ. Hier wurden mir zu viele Stereotype benutzt. Auch die Lösungsvorschläge in diesem Kapitel haben mir nicht zugesagt. Generell war das erste Kapitel das schwächste.Weiterhin wird zwar ausführlich beteuert, dass die Untersuchungen fundiert durchgeführt wurden. Ein tatsächliches Gefühl von der Vollständigkeit der Untersuchung wird jedoch nicht vermittelt. Es wird also kaum erklärt, wie das Wahrscheinlichkeitsmodell dieser Untersuchung aufgebaut wurde und wie die einzelnen Grenzen und Werte zustande kamen. Statt einer tieferen Betrachtung wird man mit der Beteuerung abgespeist, dass die Untersuchung komplex und vollständig war. Ggf. ließe sich hier zu der Arbeit der McKinsey Berater noch etwas im Internet recherchieren, um diese Fragen zu klären.Abschließend: Super Buch, mit kleinen Schwächen.

Wer schon viele Bücher zu den von Kahnemann angesprochenen Themen gelesen hat, erfährt nicht so viel Neues, dafür ist alles schön kompakt zusammen gefasst. Es war mir zwischendrin dann doch zu viel "Altbekanntes", sodass ich das Buch kurzzeitig mal weggelegt habe, aber wer gerade erst damit anfängt sich einen Überblick zu verschaffen, ist mit dem Buch sicherlich super zufrieden.

It shows, illustrates and explains a great deal about and, psychology (predominantly cognition, thought-processing, memory), decision-making processes and provides examples and case studies from numerous areas, ranging from the 'simple' classroom to the military, from the 'ordinary' office to transnational concerns and global politics. This is a must read for anyone who wants to see, look, watch and observe in (far) greater detail. It gives great insight into many aspects of human nature and life as such, yet it is pleasant to read and devoid of the oftentimes tedious and superfluously pretentious writing 'style' that so many self-proclaimed authors fall victim to. Thank you for writing such a great book, a true accomplishment!
